Give Me A Reason

Dr. Sterling Pierre Morris II, a prominent Detroit Psychiatrist, is contentedly serving

his clients when he is suddenly offered a six-month assignment at I.C.C., a secret

organization, nearly twenty-four hundred miles from home. Meanwhile, Dr. Morris had

reservations about accepting the assignment because this friend had a tendency of

volunteering him for assignments in the past that jeopardized his psychiatric license.

However, the attractive offer, including generous benefits and the idea of awakening to

the California sun, instead of enduring another bitterly cold Michigan winter, made the

assignment difficult to refuse. So, without much hesitation, Dr. Morris convinces himself

to accept the offer. After all, if he can survive in Detroit, he can survive anywhere.

After arriving in sunny California, Dr. Morris soon discovers this assignment is starkly

different from anything he ever encountered in Detroit. He immediately began to

remember that “all money, wasn’t good money.” The cases are unsettling. The stakes

are high. Each client’s reality is more disturbing than the last.

Then there is Mr. Troy Shields, a client whose personal tragedies mirror Dr. Morris’

own experiences and feel like a scripted version of his past. This is when Dr. Morris had

a premonition that his life would never be the same. He was now convinced that his

friend may have intentionally withheld vital information about I.C.C. and he may have

signed the contract in haste.

With only six months to complete the assignment, Dr. Morris is faced with tormenting

thoughts: why was he chosen and what is the real reason he is here?

The education of young Black men and women in America is vital. However, far too often they learn the rules of the game too late. The struggle to make an honest living in America has been detrimental to our young people - mentally, socially and economically.
